Susan Abadie Matchica

Susan Abadie Matchica

May 21, 1959 ~ June 23, 2024

Susan Abadie Matchica (Nana), passed away peacefully at her home in Jupiter, Florida at the age of 65. Susan was born in Philadelphia, PA by Harry F. Abadie and Patricia P. Abadie. Susan went to grade school in Havertown, PA. Susan’s love for Florida started when she vacationed down here one spring break when she was only seventeen. Susan made it her destiny to move down to Florida and start her own family. Susan loved to go out fine dining and in 1978 at the Lamb Tavern, she met the love of her life, Michael S. Matchica, who was the restaurant owner’s son. It was love at first sight and after a long engagement, Susan and Michael were married and moved to Florida. Susan was a brilliant, amazing, and unforgettable person who was devoted to her family and prioritized raising her daughters. Susan would volunteer as a chaperone for her daughters school field trips any chance she could from going to the local zoo, museums, and up to St Augustine to explore the history the city has to offer while creating memorable moments. Susan explored different careers and hobbies from selling Avon, advanced vacuums, travel agent, cosmetologist, realtor, and gardener, which sparked her love for gardening and cultivating such a beautiful garden right in her backyard. Susan was very self-motivated and enjoyed volunteering with her daughters, meeting people, and giving back to her beautiful community of Jupiter. Susan was incredibly gifted in arts and crafts, gardening, and especially music/dancing. Susan loved to work on new projects and renovations around the house like setting each brick in the front porch area. Raising her girls was her main priority and her passion for travel, music, and arts provided her daughters with a wonderful upbringing of exploration and adventure. Susan enjoyed the paradise where she chose to live and frequented the beach often with her daughters and husband. Susan (Nana) loved exposing Spencer, her grandson, to fun events and activities like taking him to the science museum, playing and exploring outside, and introducing him to the best pizza.

Susan is missed dearly and has left family, and friends in grief at the loss of such an amazing woman who stood out, and lit up every room she blessed with her presence. Susan leaves behind her beloved husband, Michael S. Matchica, daughters Emily M. Matchica and Sarah N. Matchica, and grandson Spencer D. Matchica. Her caring mother Patricia Abadie, and loving sisters Jeaneen August with husband Bill August, Jennifer Abadie, and brother Harry Abadie with girlfriend Tracy Claypool who all loved her immensely. With many extended family members including nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends will all miss her. Susan was preceded in death by her father Harry F. Abadie, mother in-law Molly Matchica, father in law Nicholas Matchica, and brother in-law Nicky Matchica.

Susan’s family will hold a private Celebration of Life in August.

Flowers and cards are being received at their home.

From the day she walked in Walgreens and started talking I knew we were gonna be good friends. She became my Best friend in only a few times we meet. We talked everyday and did alot of things together. From late night chats on my porch, to just having ice cream or McDonald’s together it was always fun.
We had so much in common. We talked about are family and took advice from each other, both loved to garden, cook, skincare, hair, music and just hanging out was the best.
She loved to talk about you girls ,and Spencer. Mike ,I loved hearing her stories about you and her and Loved it when you came out with us.
I will never have another friend I know like her because of her big wonderful personality. I do miss texting and talking to her. But I have great memories. Love you all. Robin
