Carol Ann Grillo
January 02, 1936 ~ March 20, 2021
Carol Ann Grillo, 85, passed away peacefully in her Jupiter, FL home Saturday, March 20, 2021, with the love, support of family, friends, and her Boston Terrier by her side after an illness. Carol Ann was born on January 2, 1936, in Baltimore, MD, the oldest of two children, beloved only daughter, of the late William and Adeline Amos, formerly of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 28 years Robert “Bob” L. Grillo in March 2019.
Carol “Amo” graduated from Hamburg, NY, High School in 1953. Continued her education at Endicott College, Beverly, MA, earned an Associate of Arts degree in 1955. In 2009, Carol received an honorary doctorate from her alma mater when she and her husband donated The Carol Grillo Art Gallery: a public gallery for faculty, students, and the community. She has a degree from Framingham State (Teacher’s) College, Framingham, MA, and certifications from the Art Students League of NYC.
Carol was a member of the National Association of Women Artists, NYC, Florida Artist Group from the West Palm Beach Area II, Artist Guild of the National Collage Society, Hudson, OH, and others. Carol embarked on a career as a fashion illustrator. She was a lifetime artist-mentor who attended plus taught many art workshops. Collage technique, mixed-media with hand-colored papers, acrylics, inks, with texture items was her favorite medium. Exhibiting her paintings in art shows-galleries garnered local-national awards in the New England, NJ-NY metro, and Jupiter-West Palm Beach areas.
Carol married, had three children, lived the Marine Corps life in Alexandria, VA, and Oahu, HI. She moved to Liverpool (Syracuse), NY, Wayland, MA, Ramsey, NJ, where Carol Ann married Bob in June 1991 at the Golf and Country Club. They retired and moved to Jupiter Inlet Colony and then Jonathan’s Landing. Carol was an elegant lady, who possessed a great sense of humor, was well-read, an avid storyteller, and loved Boston Terriers. She enjoyed decorating the many homes she lived in, gourmet cooking, liked to entertain, travel, play tennis, and golf. Carol was a dear daughter-sister, devoted wife, loving mother, wonderful grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She leaves her children: Retired Marine Colonel Marc (Karen) Richardson, Vista, CA; Carin (Joe) Bariso, New Port Richey, FL; Scott (Donna) Richardson, Prescott, AZ; 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren. Steven (Joann) Grillo, Randolph, NJ; Robert “Ted” (Leslie) Grillo, Saunderstown, RI; 8 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. She is survived by her brother Robert “Bob” (Jan) Amos, Camdenton, MO, cousins, nieces, nephews, family members, and true friends. She will be especially missed by her best friend since college, Joanne Hanrahan, Coral Springs, FL. Carol enjoyed spending time with family and friends the most; those that knew her will always love and miss her.
The family appreciates Carol’s caregiver’s compassionate help over the years, is grateful to her doctors from Jupiter Medical Center, and Trustbridge Hospice for their expertise in her health journey. So saddened to hear the news of Carol’s passing. I was fortunate to have known Carol and felt her kind and generous spirit for myself. What a beautiful graceful woman. I have a piece of her collage art on display in my home. I will always remember her with a smile.
My deepest condolences,
