David Michael Hagedorn

April 06, 1953 ~ March 10, 2023

Legendary radio host and DJ David Michael Hagedorn aka/Dave Michaels & Bobby Moore of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida passed away unexpectedly Friday, March 10, 2023.  He was born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri on April 6, 1953. Dave had a long and exciting career in radio, and as a DJ for KGMO, WPOM, WIRK and most current Uncle Mick’s in Jupiter. He DJ’d many weddings and parties over the years. He enjoyed his career in radio and was voted Best Country DJ in South Florida and Nighttime Show (The All Request Show) with WIRK. Dave was very loving, caring, compassionate, and a very devout Christian, and if you needed support Dave was there for you.  When he wasn’t watching sports you might find him watching Gunsmoke. Dave was very artistic, and on birthdays or holidays family would look forward to receiving one of Dave’s very funny and creative hand drawn envelope to go along with his card, a masterpiece that none of us could ever throw away. Dave had that Midwestern charm and personality and was loved by so many.  He was quite the prankster always playing jokes on everyone. Dave attended St. Mary’s Grade School, Notre Dame High School and Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, MO.  He was totally devoted to his family and will truly be missed. Dave is survived by his daughter Jennifer Hagedorn (Ashley) of Stuart, FL,  loving sister’s Carol O’Hayon of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Diane Johnston (Steve) of Cape Girardeau, MO, nieces Polly Agee (Bill), Kristyn Taylor (Ryan), Leah Apyan (Paul), nephew’s Rick Hagedorn (Kim), Ryan Hagedorn (Amy), Andrew Johnston (Kristy), great niece’s Ashley Taylor, Bailie, Breanna, Makenzie Johnston, Megan Fisher, Lauren Hagedorn and great nephews Mark & Blake Hagedorn, Jacob & Luke Hagedorn, Cameron & Wade Apyan.  Dave was predeceased by his loving parents Elmer and Teresa Hagedorn, brother’s and their spouse’s Richard and Doris Hagedorn, Robert and Susan Hagedorn.  There will be a Celebration of Life and Memorial Farewell at Uncle Mick’s in Jupiter on April 8, 2023 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM with a toast in Dave’s honor at 6:00 PM.  Dave will return to his “favorite place” to rest in peace, his hometown of Cape Girardeau, Missouri.  If you have any funny stories or pictures that you’d like to share please bring them with you to Uncle MIck’s on April 8th.  Dave would always end his show with “Dave’s Not Here Man”…The Fun Has Just Begun, “Yes It Has, Yes It Has”.

Dear Carol and Family: One of the great regrets in my life is that the Martins did not get the opportunity to enjoy, collaborate, and carouse with the Hagedorn’s in that special way that close families always do. Unfortunately, geography (us in Texas and y’all (couldn’t help myself using that word) in Florida and Missouri, kept us apart from a cousins. It was just plain fun and joy of association to be around Dave and Carol as well as Diane Bob and Dick. And when we were able to get together I fondly remember loud conversation and talking over each other because the time was precious and we were not going to waste it. And , I know Dave did not waste a moment of his life, that did not include his great and loving family. So, God speed Dave and we will be seeing you. Keep those stories going!

Dave was a good friend to me. I started at the WIRK 107.9 in 2000 as the morning show Producer for JD and the Wake up Crew. Meeting Dave for the first time was Awesome and we became friends very quickly. He thought me so much about the Radio Business. After honing my skills and would do fill in some times overnight I would always reflect back on what Dave thought me. I started Dj’ing for weddings and Parties, I used the antics of Dave and a few other Dj’s that I was lucky enough to work with to help make me the person, Dj I am today. I will never forget him. You will be Truly missed my friend. Rock the Heavenly Airways.
Rip Dave.
God Bless.

I was lucky enough to work with Dave on a nightly basis. I was next door and every time I left the studio I’d find something different by the mixing board. Dave was always my radio idol! We would hang out in the parking lot after his shift and talk for hours. There will never be another Dave Michaels! My condolences to his family and friends.
