Mary Ruth Davis

Mary Ruth Davis, 93, of Ottumwa, Iowa and Bowling Green, Florida passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at Home Suite Home in Jupiter Florida.

Mary was born May 31, 1933, in Ollie, Iowa, to John and Verna Klontz. She graduated from Fairfield High School and, on March 1, 1952, married the love of her life, Lawrence Benton Davis, in Nashua, Iowa. Together, Mary and Larry shared 53 years of marriage, building a life centered around family, faith, friendship, and love.

Mary and Larry were blessed with four children: Carrie Jane, Robert, Amy and Lisa.

Mary was loving, kind, strong, patient and faithful. She was often referred to as Sweet Mary by friends and family.

Mary enjoyed volunteering at church and at the Hardee Help Center, reading, spending time with friends, and arts and crafts.

Mary was a longtime member of First Lutheran Church of Ottumwa, then Peace Valley Lutheran Church in Wauchula, Florida.

She leaves behind three of her children, Robert of Ottumwa, Amy of Burlington and Lisa (Douglas) Knecht of Hobe Sound, Florida, who loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Larry; her daughter, Carrie Jane; her parents; her brothers and sisters.

A private family celebration of Mary’s life will be held. She will be buried in Shaul Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crest Services in Ottumwa, Hope Haven Area Development Center in Burlington or TrustBridge Hospice of Palm Beach County Florida.
