Richard and Karen Arends

Richard and Karen Arends

November 11, 2025

Richard and Karen Arends, devoted husband and wife for 48 years, passed away on November 11, 2025. Formerly of Chicago and Wauconda, Illinois they made their homes in Randolph and Denville, New Jersey, as well as South Palm Beach, Florida. They built a life centered on family, faith, and enduring love.

Richard, 85, was a proud veteran of the United States Army and later enjoyed a long career with AT&T. Known for his steady presence and quiet strength, he was deeply committed to his family and to a life of service. He had a passion for geocaching, real estate, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. He is survived by his brother, James Arends.

Karen, 83, was a dedicated homemaker whose creativity enriched every space she touched. She especially loved antiquing and had a keen eye for finding beauty in the past. She is survived by her two sisters, Susan Simonson and Deborah D’Albert.

Richard and Karen are survived by their children—Kimberly (Conley) Mitchell, Mark Conley, and Mark Arends—and their beloved grandchildren: Cia Conley, Parker Conley, Kelsey (Mitchell) Cerbone, Kerry Mitchell, and Brooklyn Arends, and their great-granddaughter, Caileigh Cerbone. They leave behind a legacy of kindness, resilience, and deep connection that will be remembered always.

Hello Mark,
This is your old friend Curley, I just wanted to convey my condolences in the loss of your parents. losing one Parent is hard but losing both can be devastating. I will put you on my church prayer list as well as pray for you and your family privately. They must have really loved each other, because it seems like your mother died of a broken heart. Although death is so sad, please find comfort and knowing that they are back together again.
