Richard Craig Hitchins

May 01, 1945 ~ December 30, 2025

Richard Craig Hitchins, 80, died on December 30, 2025, with his wife by his side in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.  Born in New Haven, Connecticut, he was the second child of Clayton Stanley Hitchins Jr. and Florence Shive Hitchins.  He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Betsy Gioia Hitchins, and his two children, Julia Megan Hitchins and Richard Christopher Hitchins (Tanya).  He is also survived by his brother Clayton Stanley Hitchins, III of San Francisco, California, and his sister Beverly Hope Hitchins of Alexendria, Virginia.

Richard attended grade and high school at Hamden Hall Country Day School in Hamden, Connecticut.  He was also a member of the Boy Scouts and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Following high school, Richard earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Vermont, Class of 1967, and was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity.  Upon graduating from the University of Vermont, Richard served as an officer in the U.S. Army’s Green Beret Airborne Special Forces. After his service to the U.S. Army, Richard graduated from Rutgers University with an MBA in Accounting and Finance, Class of 1973.  He worked for Arthur Anderson, Deloitte & Touche, and subsequently founded R.C. Hitchins & Co. P.A. in 1983.  In 1996, he founded R.C. Hitchins Wealth Management, Inc.

Richard was an active member of the West Palm Beach community.  He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of North Palm Beach, Florida, West Palm Beach Rotary Club, and the Tuscawilla Club.  Richard also served on many boards throughout his business career including Florida Public Utilities Company, City of Palm Beach Gardens Firefighters Pension Board, and the Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches. He was also an avid golfer.

A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of North Palm Beach on Saturday, January 24, 2026, 11:00am.
