Captain William “Bill” Jay Kurtz

Captain William “Bill” Jay Kurtz, 61, Lake Park FL passed peacefully and unexpectedly in his sleep October 31, 2023.

Beloved by his family and friends, Captain Bill loved life, especially on the seas.

He leaves behind his wife, Kim, their 3 cherished children, William Jay, II, 28 Paul John, 25 and his precious daughter Krista Marie, 21. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Kurtz, brother, Marc Kurtz and aunt, Judith Kurtz. He leaves behind his loving mother, Dolores Marie Kurtz, his adoring sister Nora (her husband Captain Bill) Frisch, sister in law, Kathy , niece Hannah, nephew, Ryan and cherished dog, Joey.

He was born in Jacksonville IL to John “Jack” and Dolores Kurtz. When he was 8, the family moved to Florida where Bill’s love of life on the water began. He loved fishing and was an avid windsurfer. Bill met his wife of nearly 29 years, Kim, on a blind date and they were married in Las Vegas at the Chapel of Bells, 11/8/1995.

Bill’s love of the sea and eventual lifelong passionate career was further inspired via trips to the Bahamas with his close friend, John Turecki and his family.

Goodbye has come way too soon for a man who touched the lives of so many. Wherever Bill traveled-Florida, Bahamas and beyond, he was always quick with a smile, laugh, rum drink, and a plethora of corny jokes, much like his dad. Bill loved adventure and loved showing others adventure. He was quick to lend a helping hand, offer a beer or bite to eat. A life taken much too soon, Bill will be remembered and missed by the many lives he has touched.

A celebration of life will be held 3pm  December 16 at the Moose Lodge in Palm Beach Gardens.  In lieu of flowers please donate to American Sleep Apnea Association or Sea of Change in honor of Captain Bill.
