Carole Doris Haje

Carole Doris Haje

July 30, 1945 ~ March 07, 2022

Carole Doris Haje passed away on March 7, 2022 at her home in Jupiter, Florida, surrounded in love by her family. She was 76 years old.

Born Carole Doris Jankowski on July 30, 1945 in Queens NY, she was the first child of Edward S. and Doris H. Jankowski. Carole attended Richmond Hill High School in Queens, NY, graduating fourth in her class in 1963. She then attended Queens College City University of New York, where she studied Home Economics/Nutrition and graduated in 1967. She received her master’s degree from Stony Brook University in order to pursue a career in dietetics.

She met Roy L. Haje at Queens College and they were married on May 26, 1968. They raised their four children, Edward (born 1972), Joanna (46), Victoria (44), and Alexander (36) on Long Island, settling in South Setauket, NY.

Carole worked most of her career at St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center as a dietician in Smithtown, NY until retiring as Assistant Director for Nutrition in 2011. Since retiring, Roy and Carole split their time between homes in Jupiter, FL and Southampton, NY.

Carole was an active volunteer after retiring, including at Southampton Hospital and Jupiter Medical Center. She enjoyed interacting with patients, especially expecting mothers, to guide them in their health and dietary decisions.

In her personal time, Carole loved gardening and had a beautiful garden in their backyard in Southampton. She adored cats (even mischievous ones) and enjoyed feeding birds. She was known as a meticulous planner which was evident in her detailed weekly meal plans and excursion and vacation agendas. She loved visiting the beaches in Southampton and was a frequent visitor to the many art galleries and shows in both the Hamptons and in Jupiter.

Carole was predeceased by her son, Edward A. Haje, her mother, Doris H. Jankowski, and her father, Edward S. Jankowski. She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Roy L. Haje of Southampton NY and Jupiter, FL; her daughter Joanna Swanson and her son-in-law Paul Swanson of Rolling Hills Estates, CA; her daughter Victoria Behr, her son-in-law Matthew Behr and her two granddaughters, Eleanor and Juliette, of Haddonfield, NJ; her son Alexander Haje, his wife Mae Haje, and her granddaughter, Isabella, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; her sister, Joan McGinn, and her brother-in-law Philip McGinn of Redding, CT; and her niece and nephews.

A ceremony in honor of Carole’s life will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 11:00 am at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, 13301 Ellison Wilson Road, Juno Beach, FL 33408.

A celebration of Carole’s life, and the interment of her ashes at Calverton National Cemetery in Wading River, NY, next to her son Edward, will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (https://themmrf.org/).

I have so many deep, rich memories of Carole. We met in Kindergarten and were in the same classes for all our Elementary and High School years…we even went to Queens College together. Even though we chose different career paths Carole ALWAYS had time to help me with my nemesis class.. chemistry…she was a brilliant, gifted friend and I will always remember her smile, her laugh, her kindness and especially her faithfulness to her convictions. She will be missed by all who loved her on this earth but God is rejoicing because she fulfilled her God given purpose on this earth …to reflect HIM in all her hand found to do.
Soon and very soon we will all be together rejoicing before the throne.
Love you my dear friend,

Mike and I send our heartfelt condolences to Roy, Joanna, Victoria, Alex and the entire Haje family and extended family as we all mourn the loss of our beloved Carole. I, too, will miss my kind, thoughtful, smart, fun-loving, brave, dependable, devoted friend and neighbor and will treasure the memories of all the great times we had together. Carole was my beach buddy, and we enjoyed so many summer days at Southampton’s Flying Point Beach just gabbing, exchanging recipes, collecting shells, and walking to the Sea Puss. Carole, who was always such a good planner, would organize our visits to all the weekly art gallery and receptions where we not only enjoyed the art, but delighted in the complimentary wine and hors d’oeuvres! I’ll remember her wonderful smile and how she loved to laugh—especially after a few of my blood orange martinis! Rest in peace, my dear friend, and may God bring comfort to all those who knew and loved her.

Jim and I send our sympathy and condolences to Roy, Joanna, Victoria, Alex and their families at this time of Carole’s passing. We will reminder her radiant smile and laughter as she expressed her love of life. Her meticulous planning of events to detail was an admirable trait of hers. We thoroughly enjoyed all of the Haje /Swanson gatherings that involved much laughter, the sharing of stories and good food. May Carole Rest In Peace, free from pain and suffering and blessed be her memory.

Joan D. McGinn - Sister

My sister Carole was an example of goodness and kindness in this world. She was a loving wife and helpmate to her husband Roy and a devoted mother to her children Edward, Joanna, Victoria and Alexander.
She led her life as a true Christian. Her many friends, including several lifelong friendships, testify to her caring spirit. Beside that, she was smart, organized and practical, able to accomplish many things.
I loved my sister dearly. My only regret is not living close to her because I wanted to spend more time
with her. Now, I picture her in heaven holding her firstborn’s hand and looking down wishing us a happy life
until we may join them sometime in the future. ✝️

There are no words to express how sorry we were to hear of Carole’s passing. We’d say she fought the good fight, but there was nothing good about it. Through it all, however, she remained a wonderful woman, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to so many. She will be missed by all. With our deepest sympathy to her loved and loving family,
Al & Lynne Wolff
