Charles T. Mountain

Charles T. Mountain

December 01, 1936 ~ May 08, 2021

Charles T. Mountain, 84, of Wellington, Florida and formerly of Detroit, Michigan, passed away on May 8, 2021 after a heroic battle with kidney disease.  Charles was a passionate man, who was fulfilled by his contributions to his storied career.  Some of his brightest achievements were his direct management of the GT40 program, which led Ford Motor Company to the Le Mans win four years in a row and establishing his own design/ engineer/ manufacturing automotive company.  He lived life with dignity, integrity, and a moral compass that allowed him the ability to choose his own path, in every aspect.  As he used to say… “Anything worth doing, is worth overdoing”.

He was honored to serve his country, thankful to his parents, who made him the man he was and grateful for the opportunities that blessed him.  He loved a challenge, never had a loss for words and was happy to offer his sage advice to any and all.  In addition to all things “cars”, Charles enjoyed life on the water, his years cruising the islands with his family and his travels throughout Europe.

Charles was a loyal and loving husband, father and friend, who had a powerful sense of humor and an intense disposition.  He is survived and will be deeply missed, by his wife of 27 years, Colleen, his son Charles (IV) in Wellington, Florida, his daughter, Nicole Waggener, her husband, Rick, and his granddaughter, Tabitha, in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

A celebration of life and release of ashes into the ocean, will be scheduled at a later date.  Please sign the guest book at edgleycremation.com and share memorable moments.  In lieu of flowers, make donations to CDIFF Foundation, 8520 Government Drive, Suite 1, New Port Richey, FL 34654

My heart, my love, my life. He was my all for exactly 35 years. Who would have thought, that a snowstorm in May, would have fate intertwining our lives. Charles made such a big impression on everyone he met, especially me. On the snowy evening, when his car broke down in I-75, and he walked into my life…. I knew my world had changed.

I miss him so much that words fall flat. I will cherish the wonderful memories that we shared and I hope that others will share memories of their moments with him.

May God wrap you warmly in his arms.

Charles was a friend with whom I worked with in 1966 and 67 on the Le Mans project. We went our separate ways until a few months ago when we reconnected on a telephone call. Though I live across the country, I was looking forward to visiting with him in Florida, but fate has now intervened. My sympathy to Colleen and the Mountain family. God speed Charles.

I have known and loved the Mountain family for many year from the their Key Largo era. The most fun was always the Coconuts Fishing Tournament and New Year party not to mention the Super Bowl parties at Coconuts.
If you ever needed advice Charles was very will to give it. The most recent was the sell of my house in KeyLargo. I was so thankful for his guidance.
I know Charles and Colleen were join at the hip in their business endeavors for many years and Colleen will miss the day to day business they had.
My Love and prayers are with Colleen and Charlie and pray that God be with them through this heartbreaking time they are going though. Love You guys and will see you soon!

My dad was an affectionate man who took his responsibilities very seriously. Even though he worked long, hard hours he still had time to take me to my first concerts, amusement parks, and family trips when I was young. It’s funny, when you have your own child you really understand how important those 2am essay rewrites and math homework lessons really were. He had no shortage of pep talks that really helped me. He was there when I had major problems, scooped me up and helped me continue down a path towards my future. I really missed his birthday phone call to me today and I’m sure there will be many days in the future that will be difficult without him. But I am happy that he is not suffering anymore and is at peace. I am so grateful for Colleen being such as amazing person who was always there for my dad, she helps make this a little less difficult because I still have her in my life.

Never had as much fun as working for Chuck. Demanding for sure, but clear in what he expected. They don’t make them like that anymore. He will surely be missed.

To the Mountain family: I am so sorry for your loss. I had the good fortune to meet Chuck through my father in law who lived in Southfield Michigan. He worked in the auto industry and knew Chuck and his partner at Kar Kraft. I have fond memories of being out to lunch or dinner with Chuck and Nick when I would visit Michigan way back in the 1970’s! I even remember a time or two when Chuck vacationed here in South Florida when we had the chance to get together. I am heartbroken that I was unaware he lived in Wellington and we never reconnected after many years of not being in touch. Please know my wife and I are keeping your family in our thoughts and prayers.
