George W. Gerhart
March 24, 1953 ~ April 23, 2026
George W. Gerhart, 73, a proud Pennsylvania native and devoted family man, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2026, just one month after celebrating his 73rd birthday. His life was one of service, strength, and love — and today we celebrate a life well lived.
Born on March 24, 1953, in Pennsylvania, George answered the call of duty early in life, enlisting in the United States Navy where he served with honor and distinction for 21 remarkable years. He retired in 1993 having earned the respected rank of Senior Chief — a rank that speaks not only to his skill and dedication, but to the trust and confidence of those who served with him. His military career was a testament to his character — disciplined, dependable, and deeply committed to something greater than himself.
But perhaps the role George cherished most was that of husband, father, and grandfather. He was the devoted husband of Cheryl, his steadfast partner and the heart of their home. He was a loving father to his daughters, Brandi Gerhart and Brook Long, and a proud grandfather to his beloved granddaughter, Desirei Long. He is also survived by his brother, Steven Gerhart, and his stepfather, Stanley Smith. He was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Lynette Dove, who passed just one year ago, as well as his beloved mother and father — and who no doubt welcomed him home.
George leaves behind a legacy not measured in years, but in laughter shared, lessons taught, and love given freely. He was the kind of man who showed up — for his country, for his family, and for the people lucky enough to call him a friend.
Fair winds and following seas, Senior Chief. You’ve earned your rest.
