Hector Montalvo

Hector Montalvo

May 25, 1937 ~ June 12, 2023

Hector Montalvo passed away June 12th, 2023, in the arm of his loving wife and surrounded family. He was 86 year old.

Hector was born on May 25th, 1937, in Puerto Rico to Susana Acevedo and Victor Montalvo. He raised in Harlem, NY by his mother Susana and grandmother Calixta Serrano. He married his wife of 63 years, Sonia in Puerto Rico and moved to Brooklyn, NY to raise their family. Together they raised a blended family of 6 boys and 3 girls, 14 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. He was raised in Harlem, lived in Puerto Rico and New Jersey. He finally enjoyed his retirement years in Arizona and Florida.

Hector was known for his working ethics. He found purpose in his work. He was a man that mastered many trades but enjoyed the most being an electrician. He was never bored. Even during his last months of life, he will wake up every day with the purpose of accomplishing a task.

His children and grandchildren learned to never say they bored. Papi Cookie as he was dearly called was quick to answer, “There is no such thing as being bored, maybe you are boring. Do you want me to find you something to do?”

He loved being surrounded by his family, gardening with his wife, playing dominos, and watching re-runs of old cowboy movies. For many years he accompanied his wife, Sonia to the Jehovah’s Witnesses special occasions such as assemblies and Jesus’ death annual commemoration. Hector enjoyed volunteering his trades to help the friends from the local the Kingdom Hall that were having electrical or air conditioner issues.

Hector was predeceased by his son Hector Luis, grandson Gabriel, and daughter-in-law Maggie. He is survived by his wife Sonia; his children Hector M. Victor, Edwin, Angel L., Sonia E., Lillian, Susie I., Hector F., Raul; his grandchildren Jessica, Victoria, Eric, Christopher, Angel Jr, Marybeth,  Manni, Jeremy, Kimberly, Rennel, Geraldine, Adrian, Hector A., Alexander Jo, his great-grandchildren Jazmin, Gabriel, Mia, Rowan, Gavin, Abby, Aiden, Samantha, Mia, Jariel, Rocco, and one more  great- grandchild expected to be born December 2023; his sister Marina, brother George, and a host of other family and friends. His family will miss him and remember him dearly.

Our condolences to the Montalvo and extended families. Losing the patriarch of a large family is difficult. We weep with those that weep. When feeling low, allow the pleasant memories of the past comfort you. And may the hope of seeing Papi wake up from this temporary “sleep” and enjoy life again in Paradise sustain you in the days, months, and years to come.
