Joan Margaret Moffatt

Joan Margaret Moffatt

July 08, 1935 ~ May 31, 2023

Joan Margaret Moffatt, age 87, died peacefully at home in Jupiter, FL surrounded by love.  Joan was born in Chicago, IL to Daniel and Helen Hanlon and raised in a loving home with her brothers, Danny and Jerry.  She met the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Moffatt in 1959 and they just celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary in April.  Joan and Bob built a beautiful life together and were blessed with three daughters, Danette Drabeck (ex-husband Paul Sienas); Janine (ex-husband Randy) Mitchell; and Corie (the late Mark) Zordani.  Life also brought special joy through their four grandchildren, Laura Sienas (Kevin Appel); Erin (Josh) Luckett; Emily Mitchell; and Alex Mitchell.  Joan is also now a Guardian Angel to her soon-to-be arriving great-grandchildren, Baby Girl Appel and Baby Boy Luckett.  Joan was the quintessential mother, taking care of everyone with open arms, an open home and an open kitchen.  Joan was a voracious reader and loved playing cards with her “bridge ladies” for over 25 years.  She was a devoted servant of Christ and a long-time member of St. Theodore’s Catholic Church in Chicago and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Darien, IL.  In addition to her family, Joan is survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and life-long friends.

A memorial Mass will be held for Joan at St. Patrick Catholic Church on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at 10:00 a.m.  The church is located at 13591 Prosperity Farms Rd., Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33410.  The service will be available via streaming on the church’s website at https://www.stpatrickchurch.org/ (scroll to the middle of the website and click the link on the left side that says “Live Stream Sunday Mass” – it will take you to the church’s You Tube site and Joan’s funeral Mass link will appear 10-15 minutes before the start time).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joan’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association 2023 Walk to End Alzheimer’s at http://act.alz.org/goto/CormarkGroup.

She was a beautiful soul. Although infrequent, I really enjoyed our gatherings. I will continue to make her zucchini cake from the recipe she so kindly passed onto us. Rest in peace.

What a wonderful life she led and what a beautiful job she and Bob did raising their family.

Her children were a blessing to her during the last few years, caring for her physically and spiritually. Their efforts show us what love is

I know she rests in peace.

I am so sorry to the whole Moffatt family. Joan was like a second mother to me when we were next door neighbors in hickory hills. She was such a kind, loving, caring, beautiful Lady. All the Moffatt’s made me feel part of their family. Joan was the perfect mother and I am so grateful I felt her motherly love at the age it meant the most in my life!!!

Words will not convey the bittersweet feeling I have about Joan’s passing…sorrow that she is no longer with us, but joy that she will no longer endure any type of suffering. We have been friends since First Grade and have shared all the highs and lows over these many years. She was clever and funny and kind and will be sorely missed. Peace my dear friend,
