John (Jack) Fitch Walter

March 20, 1934 ~ August 22, 2022

Dr. John (Jack) Fitch Walter, 88, of Nassau, Bahamas passed away on
August 22nd in Jupiter, FL from complications associated with mesothelioma.  
Born in Camel, Ohio to Robert and Dorothy Walter. Raised in Lake Worth,
Florida, he received his BS degree in Chemical Engineering, Summa Cum Laude,
from the University of Florida and his MS and doctorate in Nuclear Physics
from the University of Pittsburgh.  Dr. Walter went on to Westinghouse
Electric’s esteemed Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory to work with Admiral
Hyman G. Rickover in the naval nuclear propulsion program. In the second
half of his career, Dr. Walter entered the commercial energy sector as the
Director of Engineering at Gulf + Western Manufacturing Company, followed
by the Presidency of Ogden Power Corporation and finally the President of
Constellation Power, Inc. before retiring to Nassau, Bahamas in 2000.
Jack is survived by his wife, Shirley, of Nassau, Bahamas, his three children,
John (and Teri) Walter of Ninety Six, SC; JoAnn Walter of Quincy, MA; Robert(and Laura) Walter of West Palm Beach, FL;
and Shirley’s two children Phillip McCarrell of Bedford, PA and Emily (and Richard) Bradley of Jackson, MI and sister-in-law,
Lori Snow, Jackson, MI. He is also survived by his ten grandchildren, Rachel, JR, Ashley, Alexsis, Chelsey, Megan,
Lauren, Samantha, Morgan and Keegan as well as his two greatgrandchildren, Jayna and Anna.
