Joseph F. Brower, III

Joseph F. Brower, III

March 20, 1951 ~ November 14, 2023

Joseph Francis Brower, III (Jay) passed away on November, 14, 2023 after a six year battle with lymphoma. Jay was born March 20,1951 in Passaic, New Jersey to Joseph and Rita (McGahey). He attended his beloved St. Peter’s Prep High School and the New Jersey Institute of Technology, where he majored in Industrial Engineering. After spending time in New Jersey and Massachusetts, Jay settled in Atlanta in the late 1980s. He became a loyal Georgia Bulldog fan when his two daughters attended the school. He spent many Saturdays in Athens while his daughter Megan was a student and later he enjoyed watching games with friends and family.

Jay met Judy Johnson in 1993 when he went to her place of employment for an eye exam.  A brusque Yankee from New Jersey and a southerner from Mississippi, they seemed like a mismatched pair, but their love story is one of the best. Through 24 years of marriage, they enjoyed life together and traveled to see friends and family when they could. They especially enjoyed time with their 5 grandchildren who know them as Pop and Nana and their grandnieces and grandnephews. Jay is survived by his wife, Judy; his daughter, Megan (Chris); his son, Jeffrey (Jenny) Brower; his grandchildren Sean Edwards, Deirdre Brower, Alix Brower, Henry Lynberg, and Nora Lynberg; and his sister Jill DiRoma (Tony).

He is predeceased by his daughter, Deirdre (Frank) Edwards and his sister Lorraine Richardson (Kirk).

In 2017 at Jay’s urging, they bought a second home in Delray Beach, Florida with plans to retire there permanently.  Shortly afterwards they learned of Jay’s lymphoma so they became “snowflakes” and traveled between Atlanta for medical care and Florida so they were able to enjoy their “happy place” together.

Jay passed away in Florida and is at peace. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, November 18th at 11 am at St. Mark’s Church in Boynton Beach, Fl. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Peter’s Prep:  https://spprep.org/giving/ways-of-giving/

Or the Winship Cancer Institute at  https://winshipcancer.emory.edu/support-winship/give/index.html

Judy,
Jay was a treasure, a gift for sure. He always had the right words to say for every occasion (an Irish gift I’m sure). Jay and I were St. Peter’s Prep classmates, class of ’69.
He and I tried (unsuccessfully) to meet up this year, since we live just down the road from you in Coral Spgs.
He will be missed by all of us.
Dee and I are wishing you the best. Hang tough. You are in our thoughts n prayers.

Best,
Chris & Dee McClave

So very sorry to hear of Jay’s passing. He was an example of steadiness, generosity and kindness. It is lovely that he and family were able to take advantage of being able to spread their wings in two very different locations. Good memories will keep you smiling even when your heart is sad over his passing. He was a real asset to Embry Hills.
