Mark Timothy Gaylord

Mark Timothy Gaylord

January 06, 1968 ~ March 21, 2023

After putting up a strong fight for 20 months with Glioblastoma, Mark Gaylord, 55, passed away at his home in Palm City, Florida. As an avid car lover, Mark enjoyed going to car shows, watching a race and working on his 1971 Corvette and 1970 Blazer. For over thirty years, Mark worked at General Motors and was able to work in Michigan, Kentucky, Oklahoma and Shanghai, China. Mark will be deeply missed by Kim, his loving wife of 31 years; his daughter, Jenna; his son, Alex; his parents, David and Sharon; his brothers, Doug (Maria) and Scott (Amy); his parents-in-law, Jay and Rosemarie Adolph and brothers-in-law, Ross (Lee) and Mark (Valerie). He will also be remembered by so many friends, who were like family, relatives and co-workers. The thing Mark would have wanted us to learn from the past year and a half was to make the most of every minute you have with those you love. Don’t make a big deal out of the small things, take the vacation, eat your favorite foods and of course, watch the sunset! In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity or to Treasure Coast Hospice in Mark’s name. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

As Mark’s executive assistant this past year I came to know what a great person Mark was as a leader, co-worker, and friend to so many people at GM. Even though I did not have the chance to meet him in person, his personality and caring friendly way came through easily by phone and I know he is already sorely missed. My condolences to Kim, loved ones and all those whose lives were touched by Mark. Rest in peace.

Mark was immensely loved and respected by his colleagues at GM. In addition to his love for cars, he had a passion for innovation. The ground-breaking work he started a few years ago will live on for years. Mark was not only a great leader who inspired many around him, but he also genuinely cared about the well-being of others. We carry so many wonderful memories of Mark, both at work and in social settings outside of work. We will miss his laughter, his friendship, his warmth, and his wisdom. To Kim and the kids – please accept our sincere condolences. Your husband/dad was simply awesome! Rest in peace, my friend.

My thoughts and prayers for Kim and the kids and all who had a chance to befriend and know Mark over the years. I met Mark on Corvette as he was transitioning to grad school. Treated me awesome and showed me how to travel- skip the big meal and race go carts! “Dave- there is no better job than working on Corvette except for maybe brewing beer”. One of my favorite mentors and will always be in his debt. Thanks and RIP Mark!

I first met Mark 34 years ago in June of 1989. I had just graduated from college and was fortunate enough to hire into the Corvette Body Team. There were several others, Mike Uhlmeyer and Greg Fadler to name two, and Mark was our Summer Student. We quickly became close and Mark joined us full time the following year. The next 34 years would find Mark and I following similar paths in the company. Spending time together launching in Bowling Green, both becoming Quality Engineering Managers, me in BG, Mark in OKC. Our small band of “baby engineers” as Jerry Fenderson liked to call us, always remained close no matter where life took us. Working hard to keep an annual date at The Olde Pancake House on Woodward Ave Friday morning of the Dream Cruise. We would find ourselves in Asia at the same time. Mark and his family in China and me and my family in Korea. When we returned we picked the pancake tradition back up with Mike and Greg as if we were never apart. We would ultimately both make VP at GM, a position that both of us were so grateful to have achieved. We’ll miss him so much and this year’s breakfast will be a tough one. We are so grateful to have had Mark in our life for the time God allowed it. We are praying for everyone who knew him as they grieve.

Mark- not knowing our last random call would be the actual last is a real sucker punch. You simply brought joy to everything and everyone. I met you in China many years ago with Sean V, then when we re connected years later it was like being long lost friends-your ability to make someone feel so welcomed is a god given gift. A call from you brought a smile to my face without a doubt. The way a convo could go from diamond earrings you planned to buy Kim to solving a big hairy work problem is simply unique to you my friend. I will truly miss you.

I will always remember Mark from his time on Corvette… A beacon of competence and positive energy. Throughout his career we would intersect at different times by coincidence, and it was like we were never apart. What a great guy! I will miss him. GM will miss him. The world will miss him.
