Miriam Jean Dudley

March 24, 1936 ~ January 14, 2023

Miriam Jean Dudley, (Nee Eckhardt), 86, of West Palm Beach, FL, left her Lazy Boy recliner for an even more blissful rest in Heaven on January 14, 2023. Miriam was born on March 24, 1936, in Northfield, NJ to the late Henry T. and Eliza Eckhardt. She lived her childhood and teen years in Somers Point, claiming the title of Miss Somers Point in 1951 at the age of 15. She graduated from Ocean City High School in 1954. Miriam married Jimmy Dudley in 1956 and bore and raised four children in Linwood. She worked at various jobs such as a limousine chauffeur and a telephone operator for Bell Telephone, however she retired after 25 plus years as a cashier from Shoprite. She was colorful in every way and known for the brightest colors – whether it be clothing, cars or her language. Rarely did a thought that came to her brain, not pass through her lips. Miriam had many hobbies and loved anything in abundance such as needlework, reading, photography, eating, and shopping – oh, did she love to shop! Mostly, she loved her family. She was a die-hard Buffalo Bills fan. Miriam and Jim retired to FL in 2017. What beautiful cherished memories I have of my quick spirited, lovable, sister-in-law. I don’t think she ever met a stranger! I love that she never lost her Jersey brogue after the years she and Jimmy moved to Florida.
She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends, but NEVER forgotten!

I’m so sorry for your loss. Miriam was such a beautiful person with a huge heart. We had plenty of laughs in the Dudley house. I loved hearing Miriam laugh priceless! The obituary really summed up her life perfectly. Miriam was really proud of her family. You all will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Loved Miriam! Loved working with her, partying with her (co-workers) bridal and baby showers and her legendary peach fritters that she would bring into work hot dusted with powered sugar! I will never forget her! She saved my sons life one day while working on the “speed line”- he was about 2 and got away from me while checking out – he ran right out the door into traffic- Miriam left her register and customers to run after him and grabbed him before any harm could come to him – she was my guardian Angel that day and his!

Although we only knew her the years when she moved into Brookdale, she became a dear friend to my mother in law, Mary Beduch, and she never lost her humor, generosity, and was loved by all who know her. We are saddened by her passing, but so very happy we were able to know her.. RIP sweet Miriam.

It was a gift and a blessing to be the niece of Miriam Dudley. She was joy & laughter; she was the voice of reason and calm in difficult times. Her strength of character and commitment to friends and family was a guideline by which to live one’s life. I laughed the longest and hardest with Aunt Miriam. It’s hard to accept that laughter has been silenced for now. Until then, Aunt Miriam.
