Robert Owen Shea
September 17, 1945 ~ January 05, 2025

Robert Owen Shea, husband, father, grandfather, brother…passed away on January 5, 2025 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Atlanta, Georgia, to Paul and Dorothy Shea, the family moved to Jacksonville Beach, Florida, in 1950. Robbie and his three brothers grew up swimming in the Atlantic Ocean and playing in the numerous sand dunes lining the small beach town’s coastline. Robbie attended Jacksonville Beach Elementary and Fletcher High School. He enjoyed playing team sports and excelled in academics. He attended the University of Florida, earning a BS degree in Aerospace Engineering in 1969 and his MBA in 1971. His hobbies included playing tennis, completing daily crossword puzzles, reading, and playing music. If anyone had a question on just about any subject, Robbie was sure to know the answer. A self-taught guitar player, he spent many evenings quietly playing music, sending his family off to dreamland. Robbie is survived by his wife of 37 years, Kathy; his daughter, Hilary McCubbin (Johnathan); sons Justin (Stephanie) and Trevor (Shannon). He also leaves behind his adoring grandchildren, who affectionately called him G-Pop: Jackson, Hallie, Walker, and Russell McCubbin; and Sunnie and Palmer Shea. Robbie is also survived by his three brothers Paul Edward Shea (Patricia) of Neptune Beach, Florida; Dennis Shea (Tiffiny) of Jacksonville, Florida; and Thomas Shea of Lynchburg, Virginia. G-Pop will be missed by his loving family and many friends who enjoyed his humor. Services will be held privately for the family at his request. A Celebration of Life will follow at a later date.

Robbie has been a close friend for many years. We loved his enthusiasm for life and happiness. He will be greatly missed, but we feel he is still here in our hearts and memories. His spirit in us provides comfort and consolation in this sad time. He would want us to party and celebrate in his honor. I promised to meet him in Valhalla.

Kathy, we are so sorry to hear about Robbie and the fact that he had to struggle so long. We certainly remember our times together playing softball and hanging out with the group for various occasions. Be praying for the family to find some grace during this time of sorrow. I feel very fortunate to have had Robbie Shea in my life. He was a dear friend as well as teammate at Fletcher high School. I never heard Robbie complain or feel sorry for himself. On the athletic field he was as tough as they come. He was a very special person and will be missed tremendously. Chuck Scott
